This is a super-alpha release of my MSDOS WAIS package. It is based on Waterloo TCP and uses standard Clarkson packet drivers. It should be a totally free way to start out with WAIS. It is also buggy in places, but it works. How do you use it? Set up the correct Clarkson packet driver for your ethernet card. Make a directory called WAIS and copy DOSWAIS.ZIP into it. Use PKUNZIP on the DOSWAIS.ZIP file. You probably got the DOSWAIS.ZIP file from ftp.oit.unc.edu (128.109.157.30) in the pub/wais/UNC/DOS directory. Edit the WATTCP.CFG file and put your IP number, nameserver, etc in it. Things won't work if you don't! Type WAIS. When you go to select sources (under the Windows menu) you will see the quake.think.com directory of servers and the wais.oit.unc.edu directory of servers. Known bugs: Help has some problems and is not too good. You might get ICMP: errors written to the screen. These should not affect performance, but I will fix it. There is a small memeory leak (at least) somewhere. I am releasing it in this shape because it is useful, and is a free way for the DOS world to do some WAIS'ing. *Please* send me bug lists and suggestions. I will try to fix them. When it is stable, I will release my source code. Jim Fullton UNC Office of Information Technology Computing Systems Development Group Jim_Fullton@unc.edu
