This is the MSS Version 6.6 PATCH. It can be used to update an already installed copy of MSS Version 6.3, 6.4 or 6.5. This patch will NOT work by itself and it will NOT work with any Version of the MSS earlier than Version 6.3. It is a complete replacement for MSS Version 6.5 which should not be used, since it is not fully compliant with the 14th Edition rules. What's New in Version 6.6? -------------------------- Fixed Time Standards are no longer supported, as required by 14th Edition rules. Standard Exercise stages must be Virginia Count. Virginia Count stages must use paper targets only. Classic targets can be specified in the Match Name screen of Setup. If this is done, then B zones will be blocked during data entry, and will be blacked out when score sheets are printed. Note that this differs from the erroneous Version 6.5 implementation, which allowed Classic targets to be specified at the Stage level, rather than for the entire match as required by the 14th Edition rules. When printing stage results, match results, or final results, you can now select the Divisions you want to be included in the report when you are prompted for number of copies etc. When the MSS is started, the default is "Y" for all Divisions. If you specify "N" for any Division, this will be remembered for the duration of the MSS session, but will revert to the default the next time you start the MSS. The two new Divisions (Production and Revolver) are supported. They have their scores calculated and printed separately, as do the other Divisions. But this is done at the expense of no longer supporting chronograph results. If any competitor changes from Major to Minor or vice-versa, you must modify the competitor information to reflect the new power factor. In Version 6.6 the support for separate Divisions is complete, EXCEPT FOR ONE AREA -- TEAMS. Version 6.6 of the MSS will NOT enforce Divisional segregation of teams. If you mix competitors from different Divisions, you will get meaningless team results. OK, you say, don't worry. We won't mix team members when we set them up. Fine, but what happens if a member of a Standard Division team is kicked up to Open Division during the match for having illegal equipment? You go into the MSS and change his Division from Standard to Open. BUT HE'S STILL A MEMBER OF THE STANDARD TEAM. The MSS will not handle this situation. It will not even warn you of the condition. It is entirely up to you to remove the competitor from the team. You could do it at the same time as you change his Division. So BEWARE when you are scoring a match with teams. It is entirely up to you to insure the integrity of Divisional separation of teams. For competitors who are registered in Production Division, the Minor caliber setting is ignored, since Production Division is scored Major only. However, if a competitor is changed from Production to another Division, the Minor caliber setting takes effect. How to Install 6.6 ------------------ Copy the files from the 6.6 patch disk into your installed Version 6.3, 6.4 or 6.5 MSS directory. Then you must run the MSS program in your MSS directory and re-select your printer by selecting CONFIGURATION | PRINTER SELECTION from the menu. You need to do this to get score sheets to print properly. For Slave Data Entry, copy the file named SDEPGM.EXE from the 6.6 patch disk into your installed Version 6.3, 6.4 or 6.5 MSS directory on the slave computer. After Installation ------------------ Any matches scored with Version 6.6 can NOT be used with Version 6.3, or any earlier versions of the MSS. If you make a backup copy of a match calculated with Version 6.6 and give it to someone who is using an earlier version, the results will not be correct for them. If you want to use a match calculated with Version 6.3 in Version 6.6, you must first recalculate it using Version 6.6. To do this, delete the stage indexes in the match directory using the DOS command: DEL stage*.ntx Then print the match results again in Version 6.6. Thank you for using the MSS. Ian Fachie MSS Author
