Match Scoring System Version 6.3 This version of the Match Scoring System is primarily intended for statisticians and/or organizations who need to run large complex matches in accordance with the requirements and recommendations laid down by the International Range Officers Association (IROA). The MSS Version 6.3 is provided to you by IROA, with no charge for the software license. However, a donation of $US 25.00 would be appreciated to help defray the costs of developing, distributing and supporting the MSS. Send a draft or check, payable to IROA, to this address: MSS P.O. Box 805 Oakville, Ontario L6J 5C5 CANADA You cannot run the MSS from the distribution disk(s). You must install it on your computer. Full documentation is provided on the MSS INSTALLATION disk. To print the documentation directly to your printer: 1. Put the MSS INSTALLATION disk in drive A: 2. Change your default drive to drive A: 3. Type PRINTDOC and press [Enter] The PRINTDOC procedure will ask you if you want to print the Conversion program documentation. The Conversion program helps you to convert your existing Master Database to Version 6.1 format. If you are a first time user of the MSS, or if you do not have a Master Database, answer N to the prompt. You do not have to convert your Master Database if you are currently using MSS Version 6.0 or 6.1. You will then be asked if you want to print the MSS program documentation. We recommend that you do print (and read) the MSS program documentation if you are a first time user of the MSS. Note: The full MSS documentation requires over 100 pages of paper. A different procedure is available if you want to copy the document- ation to disk. Use the following steps to copy the documentation to drive C: (usually a hard drive). You can substitute the drive letter C: for any drive on your system, as long as it has enough space for the documentation. If you want the documentation in a particular directory, change to that directory before proceeding with the following steps. 1. Put the MSS INSTALLATION disk in drive A: 2. Change your default drive to drive A: 3. Type COPYDOC C: and press [Enter] As with the PRINTDOC procedure, you will first be asked if you want the Conversion program documentation, then you will be asked if you want the MSS documentation. After the procedure has finished, the file named CONV6.DOC will contain the Conversion program document- ation, and the file named MSS.DOC will contain the MSS documentation. Note: The full MSS documentation requires about 250KB of disk space. What's new in Version 6.3 ------------------------- 1. Rule Changes There are now only 4 members in any team, as per the 13th edition rules. Team scores are calculated taking the top 3 scores from each team. 2. Region Code Printed on Results The Region code for each competitor is printed in stage and match results, but on wide print requests only. This feature was added specifically for World Shoots. What's new in Version 6.2 ------------------------- 1. USPSA Classifier Reports Enhancements You can now identify each classifier stage in its stage profile. Only those stages that are so identified will be included in the classifier report. You are no longer prompted for the stage numbers when the report is printed. When entering a USPSA competitor's score for a classifier stage, you will be asked if it is to be included in the classifier report. The default response is Y. If you answer N to the prompt, then that competitor's score for that stage will not be included when the stage is printed in the USPSA Classifier Report. 2. Support for Rifle Chronograph Results The Match Name screen now includes a field which allows you to designate the match as a rifle match. If you answer Y to this prompt, the major and minor power floors will be set for rifle rather than pistol. This will produce correct results when you enter chronograph results. Note: The above features will work ONLY for new matches setup using version 6.2 of the MSS. Matches which were setup using a previous version of the MSS will not support either of the new features when accessed with this version of the MSS. This is because there are new fields in some of the database files which do not exist in older versions of those files. What's new in Version 6.1 ------------------------- 1. USPSA Classifier Reports There is now an option to print USPSA Classifier reports from the Final Reports Menu. You are prompted for the stage to be printed, and for the additional information required by USPSA. Only those competitors with non-blank USPSA numbers are included in the reports. Separate reports are produced for Open and Limited. The Open report lists only USPSA competitors that are registered in Open Division. The Limited report lists only USPSA competitors that are registered in Standard Division. Note that any USPSA competitors who are registered in Modified Division will not appear anywhere in the USPSA Classifier reports. 2. List of Competitors by Class A list of all competitors by class is now available. Within each class, the competitors are listed in alphabetical order. 3. Support for Grand Master Class Competitors can now be assigned to Grand Master class (G). All class reports produce a separate listing for Grand Master. 4. Verify List by Squad In addition to printing verify lists by stage and by competitor, you can now print them by squad. Within each squad, competitors are listed in competitor number sequence, showing all of the scores entered so far. The competitors are separated by a dashed line. 5. Revised Layout for Verify List by Competitor Instead of printing each competitor on a separate page, this list now separates each competitor with a dashed line. 6. Revised Layout for Final Reports The final reports, including selected reports by Region, Tag, Affiliation etc., now include Class, Lady and Tag fields, since these are sometimes required for determining prizes in selected categories. 7. Support for A4 (metric) Forms The Miscellaneous Options screen selected from the Configuration menu has a new field which indicates whether you are printing on A4 paper. If you enter a Y in this field, all reports will be limited to a maximum of 77 characters per line, unless you have also selected the wide report option. Note, however, that score sheets are always printed 80 characters wide. 8. Major/Minor Shown on Stage Data Entry The stage data entry screen now displays whether the competitor is Major or Minor. 9. Create New Directory Prevents Imbedded Blanks The Create New Directory option used to rely completely on DOS to validate the new directory name. However, DOS will allow a directory name with imbedded blanks to be created, even though the resulting directory cannot be used. This option now prevents you from inadvertantly creating a directory name with blanks imbedded in it. 10. Improved File Copy Procedures The Backup, Incoming and Outgoing procedures in both the MSS and SDE programs have been improved. They will now detect errors which previously may have been undetected during file copy operations. ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS ---------------- The MSS programs and database files have been compressed into archive format using PKARC by PKWARE Inc, and LHA by Haruyasu Yoshizaki.
