E-mail responder is available at archie@archie.funet.fi. - WAIS database WAIS (Wide Area Information Service) is currently being tested at nic.funet.fi. Rob Harper has been testing the WAIS database with several molecular biology databases. We plan to provide different kind of public databases to the users using WAIS. WAIS clients are available for Mac, X, Emacs and terminal. - Prospero distributed file system nic.funet.fi Archive and Archie are available via the world-wide Prospero file system. Prospero path to nic.funet.fi is /archives/funet.fi. - Library databases Several universities provide interactive access to their library database. Nationalwide project exists to coordinate the effor (for example provide consistent user interface). Mail responders - mailserver@nic.funet.fi Provides E-mail access to the nic.funet.fi services. To use BASUN only a simple VT100 terminal or VT100 terminal emulator is needed together with a connection to SUNET. Messages to be sent to a fax machine are distributed via a special computer in Ume}. As address you use the receivers ordinary name with an underscore between the names. After the @ follows the letter F. The phone number of the receiving fax machine should follow. No separators between area code or country code. SUNET USER GROUP SUPPORT ACTIVITIES A group for user-support inside SUNET started this autumn. Results from the first meeting: 1. The SUNET mail catalogue incorporated into x.500 (done by Roland Hedberg). 2. The creation of SUNET Resource Guide(in progress). 3. New printed material aimed at novice users being planned. 4. Torgny Hallenmark from Lund university had prepared a map for networksupportpeople, containing documents neccesary for that group of people. A local group for usersupport activities in Stockholm is forming, no meeting yet. The group is a part of the local network coordination group. TRAINING ACTIVITIES AND WORKSHOPS The SUNET two day seminar this year covered Cisco-router management an was carried out in june. Seminar late october for the people on the Royal Library in Stockholm, mainly the people managing the central swedish library catalogue (LIBRIS). The computercouncil at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm will issue a special number of its newsletter this autumn covering networkservices.
