I get mine from a mail order outdoor pursuits company. I buy spinnaker nylon (42g) (proofed ripstop??) at 3 pounds 60p a metre. It comes in a range of bright colours but oddly not in any dull/ordinary ones (such as white) Is this a reasonable price or does anybody know of anywhere cheaper? They also sell a heavier ripstop (68g) at 3.00 per metre but I don't know what it's like. The company is : Tor Outdoor Pursuits, 3 Fryer St., The Market, Runcorn, Cheshire. PLEASE NOTE: I AM IN NO WAY ASSOCIATED WITH THIS COMPANY. I am merely passing on the address because I too had trouble finding a source of kite fabric and would be interested to know whether their prices sound reasonable or if anyone knows of a better source. Also does anybody know of a source for Mylar. I would ideally like to buy it on a roll. At the moment I am using the Mylar gift wrap that you can pick up in any card/gift shop but the sheet size (50cm x 70cm) is a little restrictive. Although some of the reflective colour schemes are quite effective. I have also had success at finding mylar by looking in the telephone directory under "plastics". Vendors of drafting supplies also sell map tubes. I find them very useful for storing and transporting my flexible kits, and there is room inside for my reels and misc repair materials. The type of map tube I use consists of discrete sections, threaded on both ends, which can be screwed together so as to be extendable to any length. The end caps are also threaded.
