THE WAR IN YUGOSLAVIA (or what's left of it) ============================================ (Following information comes from an article in the Radio Amateur Magazine, ed. Sept 1993 {is a Dutch magazine devoted to radio hobby}) The Red Cross ------------- The Red Cross uses six main frequencies from 09.00-18.00, to keep in touch with the outer-posts. From Zagreb all convois are advised about routes to be used, and the observers are directed to their positions. This is done on 6996.0kHz (USB). Identification is ICRC + transmitter- position. Mobile stations use Mike + 3 digit-number. When the operators ask to switch to a Lima Sierra-channel this means that they should use LSB i.s.o. USB. In the evening-hours channels LS12 and LS14 are used for phone-patching to the homes of the UN-soldiers. The Red Cross uses following frequencies: freq. mode use channel number --------- ------- --------------------------- -------------- 6990.0kHz LSB deviation-channel LS10 6992.0kHz USB/LSB command network LS9/LS16 6994.0kHz USB/LSB spare channel LS12/LS17 6996.0kHz USB/LSB spec.channel & main channel LS13/LS17 6998.0kHz USB/LSB sec.channel & spec.traffic LS14/LS18 The UN peace-keeping forces --------------------------- These frequencies are not often used, probably due to satellite- communications. The station 'Foxhole' controls all flight-movements above Croatia and Bosnia- Hercegovina. Foxhole uses 6997.0kHz. Aircrafts on patrol use callsign 'Fox' and 'Alleycat'. The AWACS-aircraft use above land 'Magic' and above sea 'Any Eye'.
