Packet Radio BID SCDX2035 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- SWEDEN--Beginning Mar. 26, 1989, Radio Sweden is expanding broadcasts in Estonian and adding a new language, Latvian. The two languages will be broadcast 16:45-17:00 hrs on 1179 and 6065 kHz. There are major changes in our English schedule as well from Mar. 26: Our times to North America are changing. The broadcast at 14:00 hrs, which we've had for many years, is being changed to 15:30 hrs. The new frequencies then are 17880 and 21610 kHz. At this same time we're also broadcasting to Asia and the Pacific on 17705 kHz. The 02:30 hrs broadcast to North America is also changing to a new time-- 03:00 hrs. The frequencies will be familiar--9695 and 11705 kHz. Turning to Asia and the Pacific, the 12:30 hrs broadcast has new frequencies of 17705 and 21610 kHz. Those same two frequencies will also be used at 14:00 hrs, to Asia and the Pacific. There's a new broadcast to that part of the world at 01:00 hrs. The frequencies are 15390 and 17790 kHz. We no longer broadcast to the Middle East or East Africa, and the European broadcast at 15:30 hrs has been switched to North America. European and African listeners can look for us at 18:00 hrs, which replaces 17:00, on 1179, 6065, and 9615 kHz. And at 21:00 hrs on 1179, 9655, and 11705 kHz. ARGENTINA--Radio Argentina al Exterior now broadcasts: in Arabic 17:00-17:30, English 17:30-18:30, German 18:30-19:30, French 19:3+0-20:15 and Italian 20:15-21:00 hrs. The frequency is 15345 kHz. (Pierre Chalard, France and Peter Andrewitz, West Germany) COSTA RICA--Radio for Peace International has begun broadcasts in the 11 meter band, on a frequency around 25945 kHz, sometimes heard as low as 25934. The operating hours are 14:00-18:00 and 21:00-24:00 hrs, in parallel with 21560 kHz. The new frequency may also be used 18:00-21:00 hrs. (Glenn Hauser via "Contact", UK) CYPRUS--Updating SCDX-2027, the Cyrpus Broadcasting Corporation can be heard in Greek to the United Kingdom Fridays and weekends 22:15-22:45 hrs as well on 9580 kHz. This is in addition to the previously reported 6030 and 7180 kHz. (Uwe Gruner, West Germany) WEST GERMANY--Beginning April 3rd, the Italian service of Deutschlandfunk will move to a new time, 22:30-23:00 hrs, on 1539 kHz. The DX program, broadcast on Mondays, will be heard at 22:45 hrs. (Salvatore Placanica, Italy) HAITI--Political disturbances in Haiti continue to affect broadcasting. On March 6th a conflict at the Catholic station Radio Soleil put the station off the air, while the director declared a hunger strike. The station has been an outspoken critic of human rights abuses in Haiti. Journalists at Radio Soleil say the conflict is between the country's conservative Church hierarchy and the director, Father Hugo Triest, who takes a more progressive editorial stand. The technical staff have sided with the bishops, and took the station off the air, after he had fired the technical director. Radio Nationale reports that a judge has ruled that Radio Antilles Internationales can resume broadcasts on FM 93.5 MHz. The station had been taken off the air by the authorities in October. (BBC Monitoring) LAOS--Updating SCDX-2030, the Laotian regional station at Savannakhet now broadcasts on 7385 and 1420 kHz. Broadcasts are weekdays 22:30-01:30 and 11:00-14:00 hrs, and weekends 22:30-01:30, 04:30-06:00, and 10:30-14:30 hrs. (BBC Monitoring) MAURITIUS--According to a letter from the Studio Manager of the Mauritius Broadcasting Corporation, the transmitter on 4855 kHz, which has long been off the air, is to resume in the future. ("DXclusive", Finland) The African station heard time to time on or near this frequency is usually Mozambique. (DX Editor) PAKISTAN--Radio Pakistan is broadcasting to Europe on a new frequency 15545 kHz, replacing 9760. This concerns Urdu at 16:45, and 18:00, English at 17:18, and French at 19:15 hrs. 11570 kHz is in parallel. The new Radio Pakistan address is: English Section, World Service, Radio Pakistan, Box 1393, Islamabad, Pakistan. (Salil Kis Paul, India) SPAIN--The Radio Exterior de Espana broadcast in Spanish 19:30-22:45 hrs is now on 21460 kHz, which seems to replace the previously used 11880. (John Killian, Virginia, USA) TONGA--The Tonga Broadcasting Commission has been heard on 5030 kHz at 07:00 hrs. (Douglas Doull, New Zealand) TRINIDAD--The Government of Trinidad is considering granting licences to addtional radio stations. At the same time, it also wants to make it compulsory that at least 40 percent of all radio entertainment programs reflect local content. There are currently two radio stations in Trinidad: the Trinidad Broadcasting Company and the National Broadcasting Service. (Karel Douglas, Trinidad) USA--Russian from KGEI at 02:00-06:00 hrs has been heard on 11680 kHz, apparently replacing the listed 7365. (Frank Hermann, GDR) VENEZUELA--Radio Nacional de Venezuela has one hour broadcasts in Spanish at 11:00, 14:00, 18:00, 21:00, 24:00, and 03:00 hrs. The frequencies are 5020, 9540, 11695, and 11850 kHz. Howwever, the 11:00 hrs has been heard signing off as early as 11:25.
