S U N D A Y S N I P P E T S (tm) # 3 1 1 8 J U N E 9 5 Be Thou My Vision ----------------- While I was vacationing on Prince Edward Island the previous week, I found a fine Compact Disc named _Celtic Hymns_ in a Christian bookstore. Tunes chosen (mostly intrumentals) are traditional ones of Ireland, Scotland and Wales, and the instruments playing are the authentic folk instruments of the regions such as fiddle, harp, Uillean pipes, bodran drum, and penny whistle. Pieces on the album (12 total) include Morning Has Broken, Aberystwyth [Jesus Lover of My Soul], Let All Things Now Living, and the ancient classic, Be Thou My Vision, of which I want to give the lyrics as they serve as an excellent poem/prayer for the believer: Be Thou My Vision (Rob tu mo bhoile, a Comdi cride) BE thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart; Naught be all else to me, save that thou art, - Thou my best thought, by day or by night, Waking or sleeping, thy presence my light. Be thou my Wisdom, thou my true Word; I ever with thee, thou with me LORD; Thou my great Father, I thy true son, Thou in me dwelling, and I with thee one. Be thou my battle-shield, sword for the fight; Be thou my dignity, thou my delight, Thou my soul's shelter, thou my high tower: Raise thou me heavenward, O Power of my power. Riches I heed not, nor man's empty praise, Thou mine inheritance, now and always: Thou and thou only, first in my heart, High King of Heaven, my treasure thou art. High King of Heaven, after victory won, May I reach Heaven's joys, O bright Heaven's Sun! Heart of my own heart, whatever befall, Still be my Vision, O ruler of all. Amen. [Ancient (8th cent.?) Irish Hymn. Tr. by Mary Byrne; versified by Eleanor Hull, 1927.] I saw that the videocassette of this album was also available, and looked interesting. _Celtic Hymns_ was produced by Craig Duncan for Brentwood Music of Tennessee, USA. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Sunday Snippets" is the trademark of G.
