Sunday Snippets #10 4/12/94 A Prayer Worth Remembering: Francis of Assisi's I will use the text of this historical prayer as my Snippet today. Francis' prayer, often learned early and forgotten by many Roman Catholics, and just shrugged off by many Protestants, contains the heart's desire of the true Christian to be like his Saviour. Some Biblical texts to consider with this prayer are: Rom. 12:1-2, Matt. 6:14-15, Luke 14:11-14, and Rom. 6:11. "Lord, make me an instrument of thy peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love; Where there is injury, pardon; Where there is doubt, faith; Where there is despair, hope; Where there is darkness, light; Where there is sadness, joy. "O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek To be consoled as to console; Not so much to be understood as to understand; Not so much to be loved as to love; For it is in giving that we receive; It is in pardoning that we are pardoned; It is in dying that we are born to eternal life." - Francis of Assisi, d. 1226 Let us remember the example of "...Jesus of Nazareth, ...who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him." (Acts 10:38, NKJV). Like Him, we should seek to spend our lives doing good to the souls & bodies of our neighbours. 4 Dec. 94 -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sunday Snippets copyright 1994 by G.
