Russia is a huge country with a very impressive railways network. There is a lot to see, but during Soviet times railway photography was strictly forbidden. Even today on smaller stations guards and policemen might take offense if they see someone photographing trains. But Russian trains also cross borders. This old USSR time locomotive VL-82M is seen here in Vainikkala in Finland. Vainikkala is the first station on the Finnish side of the border. Picture by Ilkka Siissalo 27.8.2009.
